Target: Todd A. Penegor, CEO, Wendy’s
Goal: Ensure child employees are not exploited in hundreds of Wendy’s fast food franchises.
Nearly 100 Wendy’s restaurants across the United States were found in violation of federal labor laws. Roughly 450 minors were put at risk, exploited, and underpaid. Sign the petition to demand that Wendy’s commit to ethical labor practices at all of its franchises.
The different franchises in question required workers as young as 14 to work outside legal hours. Some worked in shifts longer than eight hours, while others were up before the crack of dawn on school days. Children should be given the right to work, but they should not be taken advantage of by big business that forces them to choose between safety and a paycheck.
Hundreds of Wendy’s restaurants across the United States are franchised, but this does not excuse the corporation from its duty and oversight. Demand that Wendy’s commit itself to ethical labor practices and end the exploitation of young workers.
Dear Mr. Penegor,
Nearly 450 Wendy’s employees under 18 were found to be exploited by franchise owners. They worked long hours and went underpaid. They were exploited by big business seeking to make a profit, and not given the valuable work experience they deserve.
Although these actions were taken on the part of your franchises, this does not excuse you of your duty to protect your employees. I ask that you work to eliminate child exploitation across all franchises.
