Target: Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe

Goal: Save Zimbabwe’s citizens from crushing food insecurity.

An alarming 60 percent of Zimbabwe’s entire population is on the verge of starvation, according to United Nations officials. Worse yet, up to 90 percent of infants are apparently only getting the minimal amount of food needed to survive. This critical predicament even affects wildlife, as many starving elephants are in the process of being relocated. Severe economic strain and deteriorating environmental conditions have deepened this dire crisis in a country once deemed “the breadbasket of Africa.”

The Zimbabwe government made a zero-hunger commitment, but it has failed to live up to its promises. Corruption has helped destabilize the economy and compounded unemployment. In addition, critics accuse the government of becoming too dependent on imported food at the expense of investing in beneficial alternative wheat sources from the agricultural sector.

Sign this petition to demand Zimbabwe’s leaders take a more active role in safeguarding citizens’ well-being.

Dear President Mnangagwa,

In a time where well over half of your people face food insecurity, the Zimbabwe government’s zero-hunger commitment has failed in a fundamental way. Unlike the elephants, you cannot relocate thousands of people. Every citizen must have access to the basic essentials to survive, without degradation or humiliation.

Leadership should operate honorably, without stains of corruption widening economic fissures. More so, this government should invest in proactive solutions. Alternative wheat sources that can nourish and sustain more individuals would be an excellent and vital starting point.

Please act urgently, and act in good faith.
