Cyberpunk inclusion – KeYou – Medium
Video games are usually very slow in reflecting new realms. That is, to allow players choose the gender for their character rather than male and female. However, a new trend has been emerging to make video games more inclusive and attract even more users. As we reported recently, Pride Run, the new game from IV Productions will feature more meaningful LBTQ representation. The developers of Cyberpunk 2077 decided to significantly upgrade video game in order to make it more inclusive. From now on the users are given much more options to customize their character. The principal difference of a new version will be the absence of gender selection at the very beginning. Rather than that, the users will choose body type and then customize the character picking skin, tattoos (if any), hairstyles and much more. Moreover, there will be an option of voice choice with an ability to mix male and female voices and creating a unique sound for the character.
“We really want to make a video game that’s really inclusive. Of course, if you tackle certain subjects then you will expect people to have an opinion about it and we respect that,” said Marthe Jonkers, senior concept artist. “It’s good that people give us feedback, “ they added. Moreover, the game also has non-binary options. That is truly exceptional when game listens to their customers in such a way that they are able to create an entire world that is much closer to reality. In addition to character customization there is also an option to affect its destiny, behaviors, and personality dependent on your initial setup. That’s how the future of video gaming should look like. Despite all the breakthrough there is still tons of work ahead. In particular, the ads shown should not be offensive, especially for trans people otherwise the entire effort of introducing diversity and inclusion will be wasted.
