UA & Unified 2019 Pride Celebration Highlights – Life at Under Armour
Throughout June, Under Armour celebrated National Pride Month through an amazing collaboration of efforts driven by teams in multiple areas of the organization.
To see how our team came together to celebrate and Stand for Equality, take a look at the recaps and photos below!
TEAMMATE TALK WITH MICHAEL SAM | JUNE 11, 2019
Hundreds of teammates attended the special Teammate Talk with LGBTQ+ athlete, Michael Sam. The talk was kicked off by Unified’s very own, Perry Williams who discussed the events for the month followed by Athlete Ally founder, Hudson Taylor, who talked about the partnership with UA as well as the organization’s broader mission.
Additionally, Michael Sam joined and shared his touching story not only about coming out as an All-American football player at the University of Missouri, but his experience overcoming tragedy at a young age, discovering and accepting his truth during his college football career and learning about love, forgiveness and personal growth as a strong advocate for other LGBTQ athletes around the world.
BALTIMORE PRIDE PARADE | JUNE 15, 2019
60+ UA teammates joined by friends and family marched through Baltimore’s Charles Village where they distributed stickers and other giveaways to the crowds along way. UA was a Gold Sponsor of Baltimore Pride this year and also outfitted the over 100 volunteers for Baltimore Pride with the Pride version of the HOVR Sonics.
UNIFIED + WILL HIP HOP DANCE CLASS | JUNE 25, 2019
A group of UA W.I.L.L. and Unified Culture Club members partnered for a Pride Month hip-pop inspired dance class and workout. Led by Unified leader, Travis Lau, members enjoyed the dance-extravaganza and learned new moves all while breaking a sweat together!
SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE PARADE | JUNE 29, 2019
UA’s San Francisco office returned to the SF Pride parade for the second year running with 20+ teammates, family and friends including executives and many first-time marchers. The UA-Unified group marched the 1.25-mile parade route and distributed 2000 wristbands to appreciative spectators.
NEW YORK CITY / WORLD PRIDE PARADE | JUNE 30, 2019
Four years ago, UA won the bid to host World Pride 2019 and it was an AMAZING ride for the team! This year created the largest LGBTQ+ event in NYC history with a record 5 million in attendance, including 632,732 people who watched the live broadcast on ABC7 of the NYC Pride march. We are happy to report the Youth Pride saw record attendance at over 10,000 teens and their families present at a much-expanded space, Central Park’s SummerStage!
All in all, we created a record 25+ events and had over 100 partner events created throughout the month of June. We are extremely proud of the sqUAd and team who worked to make this year a remarkable one. Special thanks to the Unified leadership and members of the club.
