Pop star Billie Eilish, known for her single Wish You Were Gay, thought the Spice Girls were a made-up girl group.

Tell me more

In a recent radio interview with Capital FM’s Breakfast program, Eilish revealed that up until recently, she thought the Spice Girls weren’t a real group. She assumed all the music was written especially for the 1997 film Spice World.

‘I thought all the music was written for the movie,’ she said. ‘I thought all the characters were cast for those characters [and] I didn’t figure it out until two years ago.’

Eilish also discussed this on Ellen. She explained that when she saw the Spice Girls were doing a reunion, she thought they meant they were re-enacting the movie.

However, Eilish was born in December 2001 – a bit after the Spice Girls peaked. So we can’t hold this against her too much. But perhaps maybe it’s time for her to learn more about this famous Girl Power group!
