Fox News Contributor Argues That Trump Is An Aviation Expert Because He Owns Private Planes

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich on Wednesday defended President Trump‘s statements about planes by essentially arguing that he’s owned one his whole life, therefore, he’s qualified to speak as an aviation expert.

Responding to the string of deadly Boeing 737 Max 8 & 9 plane crashes, Trump claimed on Twitter that planes are “becoming far too complex to fly” and that “old and simpler is far better.”

“I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot,” he added.

Fox’s Katie Pavlich defended Trump against the criticisms his tweet received, telling Fox News viewers: “To give President Trump some credit, everyone’s like, ‘Oh, what does he know about planes?’ The guy’s owned planes his entire life,” said Pavlich, “and when you own a private plane, you know about the way it functions.”

Fox News’ Kennedy fired back saying the tweet made the president sound like he was saying, “Get off my lawn.”

The Week notes:

In private, Trump, who also owned an airline for three years, has mused that the Boeing 737 MAX “sucked” and is not nearly as good as his private jet, The Washington Post reports, writing that the president in recent days has “played the role of aviation expert, despite having no formal training in aeronautics.”
